What is Kangatraining?Kangatraining is a dance based choreographed workout that is perfect for mothers to socialise, exercise without the need to find a babysitter and enjoy all the health benefits without going to the gym! Whether you want to get back into shape post pregnancy, have a laugh with friends, or just get out of the house, you can enjoy a safe workout with a qualified trainer, while your baby relaxes and enjoys being close to you.Kangatraining means a total body workout while your baby can relax and enjoy being close to you. Our qualified trainers take you through a specifically designed program that focuses on re-strengthening your pelvic floor and abdominal muscles, as well as the correct posture while carrying your baby. When can I commence classes?You can start Kangatraining from 6 weeks post birth (or 12 weeks after a caesarean) and the exercises can be modified for those who have any health concerns, making it a safe and gentle exercise program for mums. Our trainers will ask you to complete a health questionnaire to highlight any concerns so that they may modify the exercises in the workout for you.Is there an age limit for babies?There is no age limit as long as you can wear your baby comfortably and safely. I have a toddler too- Can I bring them along? Yes! Toddlers are more than welcome at Kangatraining classes - we don't want you to have to worry about childcare! You may find that your toddler joins in the "dancing", and that is perfectly fine too. If they have favourite toys please bring these. If they enjoy wearing their dolls to "join in" this is also encouraged!Is my baby carrier suitable and what if I don’t have one? You are welcome to bring your carrier which our trainers will assess as to its suitability for the class. We will also assist you in getting the best fit and comfort for you and your baby. There will be demo carriers available at each class to try out or rent on an ongoing basis. Our carriers can hold up to 20kgs.Come along and give it a go!What can I expect at Kangatraining? We begin with a gentle aerobic warm up exercise while holding baby in our arms, then we move on to floor exercises, where baby is either part of the exercise or lying on the mat next to Mum. Next we place babies in the carriers for choreographed cardio dance, arm & barre work ending with repeaters. In my day job I am an Early childhood nutritionist with a passion for empowering parents. As a mum myself I loved attending Kangatraining and love that I now can pass this on to other Mums as an instructor. Health is not just about what we eat but is also about mental and physical health. Kangatraining assists with both of these as it allows us time to bond with our babies whilst brining movement back into our post natal lives. Kangatraining is a complete workout during which both cardiovascular endurance/flexibility and muscular capacity/strength are enhanced. Unlike traditional exercise classes, new mums need not worry about finding a babysitter or minding an unsettled baby during class because the babies are worn on them and get to be part of the action! As well as the physical benefits, the opportunity to meet other local mums in a fun, relaxed environment boosts their emotional wellbeing. The pelvic floor and abdominal muscles as well as correct posture are given special attention. Kangatrainers are also trained in babywearing best practices and can help mums ensure the safest and most comfortable carrying positions for their babies. As mums of young children themselves, Kangatraining instructors understand that embarking on a post-baby fitness program can be daunting. All instructors are fully certified, having completed a training course in Melbourne, first aid certifications, and exams in anatomy, postnatal health, and babywearing safety.
